Estes Park- shopping, dining, year-round festivals and activities can be found in this vibrant mountain town. The beautiful Stanley Hotel, which inspired Stephen King’s “The Shining” over looks the town and is worth a visit for dinner or a ghost tour.
Just 27 miles south of the Broadmeadow, the Eldora Ski Resort is relaxed and unpretentious. One of Colorado's best kept secrets, Eldora is perfect for beginners and very family friendly. There is also a great deal of expert terrain to challenge experienced skiers and snowboarders.
The Wild Basin Trailhead, right of Highway 7, will give you access to a plethora of great hikes along a network of rivers, lakes, and waterfalls. Just start at the Wild Basin Trailhead and you'll have your pick of adventure at varying difficulty levels.

Taylor Mountain Peak Trail, is a lovely nearby hike, but where the trail begins is not always easy to find. From the Broadmeadow cabin, take HWY7 west for about 0.5 miles, then turn right onto Taylor Road. Drive 1 mile to the end of Taylor Road and park on the left at the trailhead. From there, you can hike into the Roosevelt National Forest along the jeep trail.
Option 1 – Taylor Mountain: After about 1 mile, take the right at the fork in the road. 1 more mile to the top of Taylor Mountain overlooking the St Vrain Valley and the Broadmeadow Ranch.
Option 2 – After about a mile, take the left at the fork in the road. The jeep trail continues for about a mile to a wonderful overlook with great views of Mt Meeker.
Option 3 - After you take the left at the fork, look for the Bright Creek Trailhead on the right. This is a challenging hike down to the North St. Vrain Creek, and an incredible place to camp and fish for trout!
The St Vrain Mountain Trailhead will give you access to trails leading to both St Vrain Mountain as well as Meadow Mountain. This is an amazing but tough hike that starts to the southwest of the town of Allenspark. Take HWY7 to Allenspark and turn south on Ski road (4.8 miles total). Parking at the trailhead is limited, so get an early start. Dogs are allowed for the first 3.1 miles until you get to the RMNP. Total distance to the top of St. Vrain Mountain and back is 8.5 miles, but consider adding a side trip up to the top of Meadow Mountain.
If you're interested in conquering the Longs Peak Trailhead during your stay, there are a couple different routes around the base of the mountain that make sense for a day hike. However, if you want to make it up to the Keyhole or the summit of Longs Peak, that will involve some scrambling and rock climbing, and should not be attempted without research and experience!
Guided trips to the top of Longs Peak available if reserved in advance. Contact us for availability.
